'STAFF ONLY' 2025, Bonington 018 with Lily Friesen, Abigail Hutchinson-Dodd, Catherine Moore, and Imarni Boyer-Nugent. STAFF ONLY elevates the status of found objects and materials by creating an obstructing, archival display, compelling visitors to relinquish control and navigate the newly constructed boundaries of an intentionally uninviting gallery space. Utilising scale, raw materials, and man-made elements, oppressive tension and the implication of danger push viewers away, while simultaneously begging to be explored. Deconstructing the space with sculptural pieces, materials from moving image works, and electrical equipment suggests that all actions were experienced privately, leaving the audience to witness the aftermath. Blending the untouchable nature of digital works and the fragility of organic material, STAFF ONLY looks inwardly at the distinction between what is kept in private, and what is revealed to the public. Vulnerability is performed privately and then displayed publicly without context, leaving it open to interpretation and scrutiny- providing an experience of otherwise unseen exhibition elements.
